Organisation - Desk

I'm a firm believer in the idea of 'tidy room = tidy mind' and so organisation for me is an important part of my studying experience.

In this post, I'm going to show you a couple of the ways I re-use containers to keep my desk supplies in order.

Firstly, I love using old glass jars to store my pens. I find that if I leave my pens in a pencil case I tend to forget about most of them, and I also never remember to put a pen back inside the pencil case once I've used it. However, I have found that storing pens in open jars means it is much easier to tidy up my desk simply by rounding up the pens and popping them back in.

I've used an old nutella jar to store my black and blue writing pens, and I keep my coloured pens in a pesto jaro - the different sizes are particularly useful because it stops me from hoarding pens that have no ink left and also limits my obsession over coloured pens!

My main tip would be to be very careful when washing the jars out. I left hot water with washing-up liquid in the jars to soak for about half an hour, to avoid getting water on the outside label (although of course you can wash off the label if you want to!).

My second re-usable container is my porridge box. Once used, I taped down the edges of the top side and then use it to store lots of random bits and bobs that had been cluttering up my desk, like a kazoo, my coin purse, cards etc.

A bonus for me has been the way it fits perfectly in my bookshelf - I would recommend using small boxes like this for miscellaneous desk supplies, because again the open top means you are more likely to remember what you actually own!

A Weekend in Weymouth

This weekend, my family and I took a trip to Weymouth to visit extended family, and to have a bit of a holiday ourselves. It ended up being something akin to the scene in 'Wild Child' where they visit a seaside town; lots of spades and little children running around on the beach, as you might expect! These are some of the photos I took on our trip to the coast.

As you can see, the weather wasn't fantastic, but we still had a brilliant time searching
for fossils on the beach (and finding some....although I admit they might have just been interesting rocks).

This photograph has an encounter of its own. Essentially, my sister yelled 'RACE YOU TO THE SEA', and as I love a good challenge, I couldn't resist and had to sprint to the water. However, in the excitement of the moment, I may have forgotten how the ocean works, and managed to get my feet completely soaked. That being said, I won the race, so it was totally worth it...

As a port town, fishing was a recurring theme in our visit to this little village. For example, we found this fishing sign from the 19th century (the historian in me got highly excited by this!).

This last photo is probably my favourite one of the bunch - it was taken in a vintage shop in the village centre, and I just love the assortment of colours and shapes. It was most definitely one of those shops where you want to buy literally everything in the place!

Introductions

In creating this blog, I hope to find a way to use both photography and the written word to produce an engaging space within which visitors can follow me along on my travels (and hopefully have a bit of fun on the way!).

I have yet to fully decide on the exact structure of the blog, so my posts will probably be slightly disjointed as I figure out what I want to do with this, but I hope you enjoy!
